Slingr helps you research people, write cold emails in your own voice and keep track of follow-ups. This page explains, in plain English, what Slingr collects, why, who it's shared with, and how to delete it.
Who runs Slingr
Slingr is made by Sambhav Jain, a student at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi, India. It is in beta. Questions about your data: sambhavj2006@gmail.com.
What Slingr collects
- Your account: your name and email address from Google sign-in.
- What you tell Slingr about yourself: your background, writing style, sample emails, follow-up schedule, and (if you upload it) your resume file or resume link.
- Your contacts: the people you save: name, email, company, role, notes, status and the page you found them on.
- Pages you add in the side panel: the text of the page you're viewing, only when you click "Add this page". The list is kept on your own computer by the extension, and the text is sent to Slingr's server only to write your draft. Slingr never reads pages on its own and never crawls or automates LinkedIn or any other site.
- Drafts: the emails Slingr writes for you and the research notes behind them, and how many you make each day (for the daily limit).
- Feedback and problem reports, only if you send them: your answers, what you describe, a screenshot if you add one, and which browser you used. Screenshots are stored privately; only the person running Slingr can see them, so crop out anything private first. They are deleted with your account.
- Gmail, only if you connect it (an optional Pro feature):
- To track your outreach, Slingr reads the emails you sent to your saved contacts and the replies or bounces in those threads. It stores only who, the subject, the date, the thread and a short snippet (up to 200 characters).
- It stores the full text of your own sent outreach emails only while "Learn from my sent emails" is on (Settings → Learning). Turning it off deletes that text.
- It never stores the full text of emails you receive.
- If you turn on "Save drafts directly to Gmail", Slingr can create drafts in your Gmail. It never sends email: you review and send every message yourself.
- Your Gmail access key is stored encrypted, and you can disconnect at any time.
- Tracking from your Gmail tab, only if you turn it on (side panel → Settings → "Track my outreach from the Gmail tab"; free, and no Gmail permission is involved):
- The Slingr extension looks at your open Gmail tab in Chrome. When you send an email to someone you saved as a contact, it reports who, the subject and the time, and the text you wrote only while "Learn from my sent emails" is on.
- When a saved contact appears in your inbox list, it reports only their address and the date, so Slingr can mark them as replied. It never reads or stores the text of emails you receive.
- Emails to and from anyone who isn't a saved contact are ignored; that check happens in your browser, so they never reach Slingr. Turn the setting off at any time and the extension stops looking at Gmail.
- Learning data: simple measurements of your sent outreach emails (length, number of questions, day and time sent, how much you edited the draft, the kind of hook, whether you got a reply), used to improve your drafts and show your Insights.
How Slingr uses it
Only to provide Slingr's features to you: writing drafts in your style, tracking replies and follow-ups, learning what works for you, and keeping your account working. Slingr doesn't sell your data, doesn't show ads, and doesn't use your data to build anything for anyone else.
Who it's shared with
Slingr uses a few service providers to run. They process data only to provide their service to nudge:
- Supabase stores the database, sign-in and resume files (servers in Mumbai, India).
- Vercel hosts the website and server (Mumbai, India). Its Web Analytics counts page visits (which page, country, device and browser type) without cookies and without identifying you, so Slingr can see how the site is used.
- Google provides sign-in, Gmail access (if you connect it) and the Gemini AI that writes and analyses drafts. To write a draft, the page text you added, your profile and style, and (for follow-ups) your earlier emails to that person are sent to Gemini. To learn from your emails, the text of your sent outreach emails is sent to Gemini for labelling.
During the beta, Slingr uses Gemini's free tier. Under Google's terms for that tier, Google may use what's sent to it to improve its products, and people at Google may review it. Don't add pages or write about things you wouldn't want shared with Google. Slingr will move to Gemini's paid tier, where Google doesn't use the content this way, and update this policy when it does.
Cookies and storage on your device
Slingr uses only what it needs to work. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
- Sign-in cookies (from Supabase) keep you signed in to the dashboard, until you sign out.
- nudge_next brings you back to the page you wanted after signing in. It lasts 10 minutes.
- nudge_feedback_later remembers that you clicked "Not now" on the feedback note. It lasts 3 days.
- Your Light / Dark / Auto choice is saved in your browser's own storage, not in a cookie.
- The Chrome extension uses no cookies: it keeps your sign-in and research list in the browser's private extension storage.
How long it's kept, and deleting it
- Your data is kept while your account exists.
- Delete everything: Settings → Account → Delete my account. This permanently removes your profile, contacts, emails, drafts, samples, learning data and resume, and cancels Slingr's access to your Gmail. It's removed from the live database straight away; copies in our providers' backups expire on their normal schedule.
- Disconnect Gmail in Settings → Gmail at any time; you can also remove Slingr's access in your Google Account under Security → Third-party connections.
- The side panel's page list stays on your computer until you start a new person, sign out or remove the extension.
Security
Each user can only ever see their own data (enforced by the database itself), connections are encrypted, Gmail access keys are encrypted, and secrets never leave the server. No system is perfectly secure, but Slingr collects as little as it can.
Your rights
You can see and change almost everything in the app, ask for a copy of your data, and delete your account at any time. If you're in India, you have rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023; in the EU or UK, under the GDPR. To exercise them, contact sambhavj2006@gmail.com.
Slingr is meant for people aged 18 and over.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, Slingr will say so in the app before the change applies. The date at the top shows the latest version.
